I am Running to Represent You!

I am running to represent District 25 in the Florida House of Representatives because I believe our citizens need a voice in Tallahassee. I have been an advocate for Florida’s natural resources since I was 11 years old, when I started writing letters about issues that I believed were important. I am a Ph.D. trained scientist who believes in using data and common sense to inform decision-making. Today, I am actively engaged in efforts to help the Indian River Lagoon and our springs in Volusia County, among other statewide efforts.
Homosassa Speech
For the past ten years, as the Director of Science and Conservation for the Save the Manatee organization, I have worked at the local, state, and federal levels to advocate for our natural environment in Florida. All too often, I have felt that my concerns and those of other citizens, have fallen on deaf ears. I am not a person who complains. If I encounter something I don’t like or agree with, I actively work to change it. I don’t believe in “politics” or that elected office is only for the wealthy and privileged. I do believe in public service, hard work, and leading by example, which is why I am running for this office.

A movement begins with just one person. I am troubled by the divisiveness and hateful rhetoric that has dominated politics in my lifetime. I believe that compassion should drive all that we do and while our political system cannot be transformed overnight, I will work for a day where our leaders demonstrate by example, how to treat one another with respect and dignity.
